POLE BORER

Neandra brunnea

LONG HORNED BEETLES (Cerambycidae)

Description
This longhorned beetle grows between 1/3 to 4/5 ths of an inch and is yellowish-brown or reddish-brown.

Occurrence
This beetle is found throughout eastern North America. It can be seen between March and November. Its occurrence at Fontenelle Nature Center is not known. It develops in structural wood in contact with soil. The life cycle usually takes 3 to 4 years and may be spent in the same tree cavity it was in as a larva.

Comments
This is the only longhorned beetle to not have long antennas. This is often considered a longhorned beetle but it looks like a stag beetle. Neandra was until recently treated as a subgenus of Parandra while some sources still call it Parandra.
