CRANE FLY FAMILY (Tipulidae)


Description

This is a large Crane Fly approximately 1 1/4 inches in length.  The head is very small and brown. The thorax and abdomen are also brown.  The wings are long, light brown with dark brown veins and markings.  The brown legs are very long and stick-like.  



Occurrence

Little is known about this species in this area.  It has been photographed in Fontenelle Forest in September and October.



Comments

This family is large and many are difficult to identify.  This species was identified by volunteer experts at BugGuide from photographs.
