FERNS

LOWLAND FRAGILE FERN

MAIDENHAIR FERN

RATTLESNAKE FERN

Currently two fern species have been identified as occurring in Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods. Rattlesnake Fern, a member of the Adder's Tongue family, is not a true fern, but is included here because it looks a lot like a fern. Ferns do not produce flowers and seeds like most other vascular plants. They have a complex reproductive process which includes the production of "fruit dots" or sori found on the undersides of their leaves.
