Artemisia filifolia

This solitary shrub, a pleasantly aromatic perennial, was probably planted along with the other prairie plants in Jonas Prairie at Neale Woods. Also known as Sagebrush, Silver Sage and Sand Sage, it blooms with small, yellow flowers in August and September (B). Its very thin, silvery leaves give this shrub a bluish-green appearance (A).

One plant in Jonas Prairie.

Some Native Americans brewed a tea with this plant for a variety of medicinal purposes, to include the treatment of stomach and other digestive ailments.
