Term Definition
prolegs
Plural of proleg, fleshy extensions of the body of caterpillars.
pronotum
The upper surface of the prothorax, found just behind the head of insects, which supports the first pair of legs.
prothorax
The prothorax is the front most of the three segments of the thorax of an insect and bears the first pair of legs.
proximal
In insects, near the body, or the base of an appendage (e.g., wing).
pseudoaethalium
One type of fruiting body of slime molds. This fruiting body is composed of sporangia closely crowded together. They usually lack stalks although some may be stalked.
pubescent
Covered with short, downy hairs.
pupa
The stage between larva and adult in insects with complete metamorphosis.
